ABSTRACT

The chapter connects teacher noticing of students’ thinking in technology-mediated learning environments to the use of the Five Practices for Orchestrating Productive Mathematical Discussions. It includes various ways that technology can be used in whole-class discussions, including the emergence of specific platforms that allow for selecting, sequencing, and sharing of students’ technology-created work. This chapter includes vignettes (with supplemental video) of teachers engaging their students in mathematical discussions that incorporate math action technologies and their reflections on the ways they planned for and facilitated those discussions.
