ABSTRACT

Multinational enterprises from emerging countries (EMNEs) are accelerating the pace of foreign investment. With the increasing influence of EMNEs, researches on their corporate social responsibility (CSR) behaviors are expected to provide more theoretical and practical implications. This chapter presents a comprehensive background of the general contextual environment, driving forces, challenges, and opportunities of EMNEs in practicing CSR. In addition, the influence of environmental factors on the CSR actions of EMNEs is also discussed from both the external and internal perspectives. In terms of the external environment, obvious differences exist between the host country and the home country which are mainly reflected by the legal and political systems, cultures, geographical locations, and the natural environment. Regarding the internal aspect, their CSR behaviors are affected by various factors such as institutional development needs, market competition, branding, business development, and raising self-awareness. Last but not least, several research gaps are also identified which are to be filled by the current study.
