ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces various concepts, polices, and regulations related to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The aims, goals, and implementation plan for BRI are also discussed. It is pointed out that the impact of Chinese Outward Foreign Direct Investment (OFDI), particularly on developing nations, has elicited both gut reactions and thoughtful analyses. Several prevailing theories and concepts in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), namely institutional theory, legitimacy theory, stakeholder theory, resource-dependence theory, and social contract theory, are used to reveal the importance of CSR for sustainable development along the Belt and Road. Finally, this chapter points out the challenges of incorporating CSR into the BRI.
