ABSTRACT

In light of the growing economic might and intensification of global activities of Chinese Multinational Enterprise (MNEs), this chapter looks into the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) development in China by reviewing the traditional wisdom on the concept of strategic CSR developed in China mishmash of Western-brought CSR concepts and practices. Compared with Western developed countries, CSR implementation in China started relatively late, but so far, the development of CSR in China has been as rapid and widespread as the country's economic takeoff. Following that, this chapter introduces CSR institutions governing Chinese MNEs in overseas markets. It also demonstrates that Chinese MNEs are increasingly using CSR reporting as a global legitimation strategy. Finally, typical features of Chinese MNEs’ CSR reporting are also briefly introduced.
