ABSTRACT

In modern times, based on the intellectual legacies left by Bacon and Descartes, the scientific tradition founded by Newton ushered in a classical period of natural scientific research, and established its ideal and pursuit of objectivity. The characteristics of science such as universality, objectivity and precision have become the basic norms and orientations of scientific activities. However, the ideal of objectivity has kept consolidating the belief in scientism. And in combination with the aspiration for scientization of philosophy and the tendency of scientistic instrumentalism, this ideal has elevated the status of science in social life. Besides, in their pursuit of the ideal of objectivity, people have become more and more capable of understanding and transforming nature, which has caused human reason to gradually tilt toward instrumental reason, as well as the loss of value reason.
