ABSTRACT

Chapter 11 pertains to brown racism acted out by people of color. Brown racism is a description of otherwise colorism. It is very similar to white racism or secondary racism that involves discrimination by people of color against people of color. The author named Robert Washington makes reference to Asians who discriminate against blacks. He makes note of an incident in China where a crowd of Asian students attacked unprovoked a group of African students in a violent incident. Reference to the three racial groups in Caucasoid, Negroid and Mongoloid are critical to the comprehension of brown racism. Some among critics contend that people of color cannot act out racist behaviors. The works of Washington and others provides empirical evidence to refute this belief. The ultimate in brown racism similar to white racism is not race per se but the amount of melanin contained in human skin. The amount of melanin is the determining factor in defining race.
