ABSTRACT

Women’s changed work would then be yet another form of women serving men for free. If, on the other hand, women fight to increase their own status and resources relative to men at the same time that they fight for changes that will benefit men as well, they are improving collective life without maintaining the same inequity. A totally new framework for change based on women’s lives and perspectives and an independent power base is essential so that women’s energy can be directed to their own behalf rather than reinforcing their subservience to patriarchy. Women’s efforts in these societies are often directed towards developing networks through which to transform their survival strategies to change, to share work or make demands, or fight for reproductive control, more money for their work, and access to technological aids. The level of expectation makes the difference between strategies for survival and strategies for change.
