This introductory Chapter provides an overview of the main theme and objective of the book; expounds the nature of the comparative analysis; considers the importance of a reflective approach for research on First Nations legal traditions; and explains to the reader how the call to ‘political integrity’ in research on First Nations legal traditions has been answered in the context of this study. It also provides a brief primer of the Warlpiri, Yolngu, and Pintupi societal contexts. Finally, it includes an overview of the structure of the book, an outline of each Chapter, and a note on terminology.
