ABSTRACT

One could say that sexuality and politics, or else sexuality and power, is the main theme of History of Sexuality that people are writing at the moment. A subject like sexuality and power immediately evokes the problems of censorship and then of sexual freedom, which are closely related to one another. For the French, men's genitals are literally the symbol of manhood, and men equate themselves with their sexual organ and maintain a deeply intimate relationship with it. People do not live at all according to the principle of pornographic engravings and there are things that are considered perverted in their society without religious or legal prohibition, homosexuality for example. In such a society, sexual prohibition and incitement cannot be explained in a simple way, because it is related to the stratified structure of recorded history. The scientia sexualis is a rather rudimentary component of the ars erotica, rudimentary because orgasm is the only criterion.
