ABSTRACT

This chapter explores neo-colonial theory in its wider context and in relation to the International Criminal Court (ICC). The colonial state lives through neo-liberal economic relationships as well as through international bodies such as the ICC. CRT as a movement is a grouping of thinkers, activists and scholars involved in the exploration of and commitment to changing the dynamics of race, racism, and power. A major distinction between the current crop of CRT activists and our predecessors is the urgent need for and the refusal of the incremental progress that has been promised but never delivered by ‘neutral’ constitutionalism. Art in protest/revolution serves many purposes, including creating annoyance, sensitising, and educating. Music is particularly useful in entertaining the cadre to keep them motivated/inspired. The chapter also presents an overview on the key concepts discussed in this book.
