ABSTRACT

In 2019, Jordan Rome participated in two performative works addressing suppressed Black histories: Jefferson Pinder’s Fire and Movement in Houston, Texas, and Dread Scott’s Slave Rebellion Reenactment in New Orleans, Louisiana. Scott’s work restaged the German Coast Uprising of 1811, one of the largest rebellions of enslaved people in US history. One of Rome’s major roles in the event was training the group of 500 people how to move in a military fashion along the two-day route, as well as training with firearms and horses. She also played an active role in the performance itself.
