ABSTRACT

A practicing artist and working gallerist, Joy Whalen is a former student of Ernesto Pujol. Deeply influenced by her participation in several of his projects, she describes many moments of shifting perspectives and articulates how experiences with time in Pujol’s performances inscribe themselves in her daily life. She explains the collective work this way: “When I worked in Ernesto’s pieces, I never thought about exposure for myself. I just thought about being part of the experience. But it is kind of complex because each person at the same time brings something to the table and takes something away from the table.”
