ABSTRACT

The sixth chapter offers a conceptualization of developmental trauma from a strengths approach, drawing on work from positive psychology and resiliency literature. Increasingly, researchers and practitioners are shifting away from deficit models of trauma to positive psychology models that look beyond just coping with stress and instead focus on how some individuals who have had traumatic experiences end up thriving (e.g., stress-related and post-traumatic growth models). Research on positive psychology and resilience provides important insights about children with developmental trauma and their outcomes.
