ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 explores the potential for Family Law to improve family relationships. This is an emerging area of Family Law and one that has received far too little attention. The chapter evaluates a range of recent initiatives aimed at increasing the likelihood that parents will stay together or cooperate post-separation and two preventive strategies: marriage promotion and long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs). It concludes that only LARCs have demonstrated large, clear, and cost-effective benefits, but that some other initiatives are worth further experimentation and research.
