ABSTRACT

Milestone 4 explores the Gestalt concept of confluence, a merged or enmeshed state resulting in a lack of boundaries and of genuine psychological contact. This has a wide-ranging effect on the individual, squeezing their authentic identity. The reader is encouraged to explore how confluent they were in their coercive, cultic or spiritually abusive setting. The dynamics which make confluence likely are explained, including the impulse to reciprocate following a favour, and the effects of an environment in which unapproved thoughts and actions can lead to punishment. There are several Worksheets to help the reader reflect on how confluent they were.
