ABSTRACT

Milestone 8 discusses the relationships between boundaries, anger and rage. It explores the meaning and significance of boundaries, and the importance of building or rebuilding them, especially after living in a coercive, cultic or spiritually abusive setting. Broken boundaries enable confluence and the flow of introjects. The means of establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries is assertive anger, which is understood as a positive and protective boundary-setting emotion. Negative connotations of anger are addressed, including the effects of loaded language and introjects. In contrast to anger, rage is understood as a destructive defence response to trauma. Hot and cold rage are described, and located, respectively, in zones of hyperarousal and hypoarousal. Rage can provide clues for identifying underlying trauma. There are seven Worksheets to help the reader explore their experiences and set healthy boundaries.
