ABSTRACT

This chapter is the second of three chapters that considers limited war, limited interventions, and crises. It also explores hypothetical planning for an unlimited third world war. It begins by offering a geo-strategic overview of the Cold War. The overview focuses on the politics, policy, and plans of principally the United States and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), and the Soviet Union. The chapter then offers three more detailed case studies that offer practical evidence: the Korean war; a hypothetical third world war at sea; and finally, the Falklands War. It then offers a conclusion.
