ABSTRACT

“Variety Artist” describes Bottomley in prison and his attempts to beg David Lloyd George to intercede. Labour newspapers claimed he was living a life of luxury. After his release from prison, Bottomley attempted to return to his career of journalism through a new magazine, John Blunt. He sued his former secretary, Henry Houston. He tried to blackmail various newspapers with threats of libel. He went on stage, briefly, to tell anecdotes from his life. His lover Peggy Primrose stuck with him till the end.
