ABSTRACT

In this chapter we identify some trends in religious life that have characterized religious life in the last 50 years or so. The chapter is based on empirical studies in Norway, but these trends can be found in many, especially Western countries. The trends are secularization, religious individualization, religious privatization, increased religious diversity, politicization of religion, religious polarization, feminization of religion, religious aestheticization and liberalization of religious life. We will also discuss possible influences from these trends on images of God.
