ABSTRACT

By taking a personal point of departure, this chapter reflects on the crisis of systematic theology over the last decades and argues for an open-ended and pragmatic approach to theology that can be empirically informed, and can interpret and discuss critically contemporary features of religion in its different forms, with a view to how they are viable expressions of religious life and practice, and help peoples’ lives to flourish. This type of constructive approach aims at identifying how an understanding of God provides means for understanding and enriching human experience.
