ABSTRACT
That notions of God sometimes make human lives more difficult in a negative sense is the starting point of this chapter, which discusses critically how specific notions of God as morally intolerable exist and need critical scrutiny. Among the arguments it advocates is that emphasis on mere obedience to God’s commandments contributes to immature moral reasoning. Thus, ethical positions such as Divine Command Theology are criticized with reference to the underlying notion of God.
