ABSTRACT
This chapter offers an introduction to the French criminal justice system. The major components of the system – the police, judiciary, law, corrections, and juvenile justice – are surveyed, along with an overview of the country’s political system. The organization and administration of the various components are described, the various roles of the practitioners are explained, the legal process is examined, and reference is made to some of the areas of concern within the system.
