ABSTRACT

This chapter concludes the book, summarizing and discussing population control policies in China and India on a macro level. It provides a fundamental understanding of not only population but also development issues. From a world’s population perspective, the chapter discusses how world’s population growth and Western perspectives have affected the two countries’ population control policies and their implementations. Then, it also discusses the relationship between population and socioeconomic development in China and India. The author also provides future perspectives on the population issues and how the changed population may affect socioeconomic development in the future. From a historical perspective, the final chapter evaluates population control policies and population changes in China and India and discusses how modern historical development has affected dramatic and similar changes in the evolution of China and India and also point out the similarities between the two nations and differences in their recent development. Finally, the chapter raises reasonable expectations for China’s and India’s development.
