ABSTRACT

The final chapter begins with a review of approaches and paradigms that may prove effective for societal transformation. It outlines strategies and approaches that may prove beneficial to women in politics who are vulnerable to sexual abuse, along with the policies that these women should implement in local and national governments. A review of key claims delineates the most important arguments made in previous chapters and re-affirms the need to see international status anxiety and male hysterical subjectivity as relevant factors when considering the low levels of report rates by female victims of sexual abuse. The final sections provide some thoughts for reflection in the light of a more realistic assessment of the #MeToo approach in Japanese society. Though the approach cannot achieve significant, long-term success on behalf of victims of sexual abuse, it may have inspired a new generation of activists to imagine new strategies and paradigms that will prove effective in Japan.
