ABSTRACT

Intentional alignment of policies at all levers is critical for effective implementation of large-scale initiatives such as workforce development pipelines and programs. This chapter outlines how one state prioritized their school-based mental health workforce and began making policy changes to support their initiative. From the federal level to the school level, examples are provided to demonstrate how policy making and policy implementation can look similar, yet different, at each lever. Advocates can use the examples given as model policies in their own context and determine what actions are a priority in their state. Advocates are encouraged along the way to remain engaged and to strategize ahead for implementation opportunities and potential barriers.
