ABSTRACT

There are ample examples of successes in both the public and private sphere of institutions, having shifted from only granting degrees and having relatively static curricula to innovative, ever-changing, and certificate-awarding ones that adapt to ever-changing market needs. The authors describe situations where traditional academies and schools have successfully pivoted to upskilling- and reskilling-based institutions via several case studies. These cases span a learner's initiative, innovation and talent hubs, public–private partnerships for training large employee populations, an upskilling program to support small businesses, and entrepreneurship empowerment. Also included in this chapter is an approach to vocational-based skill-building and efforts focused on the “blue-collar,” or unskilled workforce. Other examples cover a “corporate MBA” with credentials or “badges” programs, and industry–institution partnerships for improved labor market upskilling.
