ABSTRACT

The Free Drawing should follow the Kinetic Family Drawing as a means of applying a projective measure with no structure or meaning. Tempo and sequence, again, are important in interpreting the Free Drawing test, as it is the drawing test that typically produces the greatest indication of anxiety and concern. Since the Free Drawing is created by an individual who has had no structural guidance, the choice, especially if it is unusual, is open to stronger interpretation. Airplanes drawn with a frontal view where the propellers resemble a crucifix reflect the aggressive impulses interwoven with the covert schizophrenic processes. Cartoonish features or any sensory mechanism emphasis – visual, auditory, especially when expressed by adolescents or children, whether on the Rorschach, the Human Figure Drawings, or Thematic Apperception Test stories, have to be seen as indications of guardedness, paranoid interaction, acute awareness of the environment, and an assessment of that person's interactions with others.
