ABSTRACT

The Advanced Scoring System for the Bender Gestalt Test-Revised (ABGT-R) was correlated to the MMPI in the first study ever to examine interrelationships between these two measures, and the authors found no other studies at that time examining relationships between the MMPI and other respected personality measures. The ABGT-R and MMPI protocols of 279 adult outpatients were analyzed. First-order calculations between MMPI variables and ABGT-R factors generated significant correlations for 13 of the ABGT-R factors. To assess the ability of the ABGT-R to predict each mean MMPI scale score, multiple regressions were conducted to correlate the 12 MMPI scales with the 17 ABGT-R factors, and ten of the 12 MMPI scales were found to have significant correlations. In cases in which time constraints, resources, or examinee factors preclude the use of the MMPI, the ABGT-R can be used to answer clinical questions about the same or similar matters.
