ABSTRACT

This chapter has a future orientation in that it takes what has been covered in this book, in the Truth Commission findings, and best practices in peacebuilding, and recommends what suggested next steps might be. Taking initiative and then sustaining those efforts take different kinds of energy and capacity that need to be supplied from a variety of sources. Resources come in different varieties and capacity building for independence and sustainability are in addition to the monetary and other tangible resources necessary for maintaining and growing peacebuilding efforts. In all of this, there are different roles for parties to play. At the end of the day, regardless of whatever policies are put in place, on a small or grand scale, accountability has to be a part of it. Without accountability, all good efforts are put to the side. And with accountability and the initiative of peacebuilding practices, there needs to be ways of measuring and evaluating to continuously reassess that what is being done is what needs to be done in that place, at that time, by those actors.
