ABSTRACT

Nature-positive companies with place- and community-based strategies have found significant market traction, illustrating that these business models are seen as the wave of the future. A good theory of change requires a set of indicators against which progress can be measured. Climate solutions are front and center of global conversations because of the unprecedented extreme weather conditions that are now common. Additionally, many communities are at risk due to changes in the natural world and exacerbating global inequities, leading to increased awareness around the importance of SMEs as an engine for rural growth. Cooperation with local peoples has been foundational to our portfolio companies’ operations across all three funds, as businesses and the community have a common objective toward just economic outcomes and sustainability of natural assets, which are essential for life and livelihood. Portfolio company Sambazon revolutionized its value chain relationships, which is key to its performance and vital impact in the Amazon region.
