ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the Somatic Maternal Healing, biopsychosocial and somatic approach to treatment planning in the context of perinatal trauma is discussed with a focus on clinical creativity. The model is not a manualized protocol, but a flexible and integrative framework that emphasizes clinical creativity in its treatment strategy, short- and long-term goals, and objectives. The cycle of empowerment of maternal bodyfulness that the Somatic Maternal Healing approach seeks to cultivate is explained. The role of responsible and individualized psychoeducation, a crucial component of trauma treatment, is reviewed. Considerations for referrals that promote a holistic anti-inflammatory treatment strategy are discussed. A list of treatment goals and objectives is presented.
