ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines the domain, the method, and the aims of modern science, while examining in detail the realist vs. anti-realist views of science, and the implications of these views for policymakers. Ultimately, whether we are realists about science or not, we can trust the information that scientific models and theories give us, because the method of science, together with its in-built safeguards, has a reliable track record of success.
