ABSTRACT

The introductory chapter explains the scope and main aims of the book. First, the two concepts which make up the title of the book will be discussed briefly. Both the right to a fair trial and the concept of rules of evidence are to be understood in a narrow sense for the purposes of this work. It is also important to understand the interplay between them, namely how the European Court of Human Rights creates rules of evidence and how they may translate into rules of evidence in domestic law. Additionally, some points about the writer’s approach to the subject will be covered, as will the structure of the book.
