ABSTRACT

The workspace for the brownprint processes does not require a traditional black-and-white or color darkroom with a dim red safelight for illumination. Unlike traditional silver gelatin printing, these processes don’t expose quickly to white light. The workspace should include a place for sensitizing paper, a location for drying sensitized paper after coating that has no ultraviolet illumination, a drawer for storing sensitized but unexposed paper, a split-back printing frame or vacuum table, a UV source, a counter large enough for as many trays as the process requires, and a means of thoroughly washing prints. A split-back printing frame or vacuum table is used to hold the sandwich of the negative, the Duralar transparent protective layer, and the sensitized paper.
