ABSTRACT

Over the past three decades, digital negatives revitalized the alternative process community by making large negatives easily affordable and accessible. Digital negatives have so many advantages. They can be made in any size. They can be made cheaply. Damaged digital negatives can be quickly reprinted. Burning and dodging can be done in Photoshop, improving local or overall contrast and perfecting an image. This chapter shows how to use QuadToneRIP on the PC and how to create a simple curve to apply in Photoshop if QuadToneRIP is too steep a learning curve. The Curve Creation tool provides a means to edit.qidf files, graph the resulting ink channels, and load new QUAD files into QuadToneRIP. The UV exposure amount can be measured by the time of the exposure or by using an integrator.
