ABSTRACT

The kallitype process has been given a bad reputation as non-archival. Long-term issues with fading and bronzing occur through poor processing. Historic practitioners of the kallitype process often resorted to metal toning to provide archival results. The use of platinum, palladium, or gold toners to replace the silver in the prints reduced fading or reduction in the print tones. Kallitypes can be made with many watercolor papers with good wet strength, although some will require an acid soak and drying before delivering good Dmax. Kallitype is a developing out process. The kalli-type process does not produce much of a visible printed-out image.
