ABSTRACT

Not only is accountability a complex concept but it is also a complex process. In this chapter, we will proceed to define the first and disentangle the second. There are two major types of accountability: electoral and interinstitutional. Electoral accountability deploys itself through three stages: the electoral campaign, the parliamentary activities, and the attempt at re-election. This chapter explains how and why. In a way, democratic accountability is a never-ending process. Rightly so.
