ABSTRACT

It is vital to audit the programme both to measure and establish its effectiveness and to learn from the pupils as the teaching unfolds. A baseline survey, done anonymously but gendered, will reveal attitudes to peer relationships, mutual support and attitudes to school and learning. The survey results are shared with pupils non-judgmentally, revealing the true nature of their relational culture. The survey gives girls a unique opportunity to share their views of boys’ attitudes and behaviour, and in this way the survey serves as a significant moment of reflection for the cohort. By using a scoring system, it is possible to assess whether the overall type of masculinity adopted by the group is sour or gentle.
