ABSTRACT

The fact that recent philosophical concerns the self have been limited in scope should not necessarily, however, be taken as a criticism of those philosophers. Philosophical concerns, however minute they may seem at first sight, usually have at the back of them large-scale traditional issues. There is perhaps some tendency to invert what the author have said and to see the beliefs as arising from the behavior rather than vice versa. One objection to a concentration on knowledge of one’s own reasons for acting or what one is intentionally engaged in as a key to what self-knowledge involves is that such knowledge seems to be a one-sided diet. There are many respects in which to understand themselves the people may have to view themselves in ways that are parallel to those which enable the reader to understand others.
