ABSTRACT
Building on the classic labour process analysis (as developed by Braverman and others), this chapter shows heterogeneity and dynamics to be inherent to farming – provided that there is space to do so. The chapter pays specific attention to the vocabulary and grammar of peasant knowledge (as compared to scientific knowledge). Farming is not a dull routine; it is a craft – an art that assumes knowledge and skills.
