ABSTRACT

Practice gives the stage manager an overview of the Nine Phases of the Production Process. The reader is introduced to pre-production, first rehearsal, rehearsal, pre-tech, technical rehearsals, previews, opening, performances, and closing. These phases of the process are defined and explored, giving the stage manager intentional tools and practices to complement their stage management style. The reader will gain an understanding of specific techniques to implement within each phase of the production process. These theory-laden tools include team-building methods, systems management, communication techniques, inclusion strategies, and change management. The experiential stories focus on the results of preparation, the pressure-cooker of perfectionism, community building, and establishing oneself in an existing group or culture.
