ABSTRACT

This chapter considers how metacognition links with motivation and offers some practical ideas about how to get children in the right place to learn. We talk about attunement and the importance of positive and inclusive environments and relationship-based approaches in enabling learners to achieve. We consider how to ensure that the task is set at the right level for optimum learning and through the use of pre-topic self-assessment tasks we ensure that all children have equal opportunities to access the new learning by ensuring that fundamental vocabulary is understood. When you read this chapter, it might be useful to reflect on how the models outlined in Chapter 2 are seen in practice.
