ABSTRACT

The introduction to this book on Drama and Writing in the primary school includes what the book is about and who it is for, advice on managing drama and frequently asked questions. This includes the reasoning behind using drama to support writing, advice on how to set up teacher-in-role and how best to ensure the drama work is as inclusive as possible. The frequently asked questions are based on typical concerns of classroom teachers and range from how to manage a lively class in a drama lesson to how to encourage the quiet children and whether or not to use drama games. The introduction also explains how the book is set out in two parts. Part I provides examples of how drama can be used as a helping hand in the writing classroom and Part II looks at how one or more drama lessons can provide a compelling context for writing over a period of time.
