ABSTRACT

I hope the ideas in this book will encourage more teachers to use drama to support the teaching of writing in the primary school. Whether teachers use it as a helping hand in the classroom or as a compelling context, drama has the potential not just to motivate writing but to improve the quality and integrity of the work. Based on my own teaching and that of others, I'm in no doubt that drama can make a significant contribution to the teaching of writing. With this in mind, I conclude this book with some references to children's writing that I have collected over the years, mostly sent to me by teachers after working with them in drama. All the teachers remarked on how the drama experience had had a positive impact, not just on the motivation to write but on the quality and imagination of the children.
