ABSTRACT

Drama is made up of a number of different strategies to be selected according to the learning objectives and the needs of the children. An abstract way of portraying real-life everyday activities and events, actions can be mimed or accompanied by sounds or speech. They can also be a way of expressing abstract concepts such as scientific processes or geographical features as part of an embodied approach to learning. Originally employed by actors to explore relationships between one of the main characters and the other characters in a play, the Character Circle can be adapted to enable children to examine relationships in stories or plays where there are several characters. In conscience alley, the class is divided into two groups to represent two conflicting, polarised sides of an argument or point of view. Children use keywords and phrases from the text to create a dream sequence.
