ABSTRACT

This chapter seeks to provide readers with an understanding of the ways in which research ethics (explored in Chapter 4), epistemological positioning, or worldviews (Chapter 2) and the research question (Chapter 3) work together to lay the foundations for your methodological framework – that is, the overarching view you have of the research topic under investigation, along with the tools you plan to engage with in your quest to seek answers to your research question. We also present some methodological and theoretical frameworks that are unique to social work and align to the social justice mandate of our profession. Key methodologies that will be explored include phenomenology, narrative inquiry, memory work, ethnography, critical reflection, Indigenous methodologies and participatory action research.
