ABSTRACT

Four core principles unify all research, including a reliance on empirical evidence, a systematic procedure and format, a shared intersubjective set of definitions, and a cyclical, self-correcting process. By understanding and following these principles, researchers can best answer questions and develop robust knowledge about human and mass communication. Additionally, the unit describes the key elements of the textbook, helping students develop strategies to succeed when studying communication research methods. Examples of communication research topics and professional work in communications that involves research are included.
