ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the importance of socio-emotional wellbeing. With a rise in mental health issues and more awareness of how our happiness can impact our overall wellbeing, taking into account our socio-emotional health is very important. This chapter first defines socio-emotional wellbeing and explores mental wellness to set the scene for the rest of the chapter. It then explores various areas based on the notion of socio-emotional intelligence (SEI), with a focus on how these can affect university life. Within the chapter, there are a series of evidence-based ideas, strategies and exercises to help students improve their socio-emotional wellbeing and thrive at university and beyond.
