ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at intellectual wellbeing with a focus on metacognition by supporting students in developing self-awareness and a better understanding of how they learn. The chapter is divided into two parts. The first part explores intelligence and how people learn, sharing a variety of theories and ideas related to learning and thinking. An important aspect of this chapter is the emphasis on developing a positive mindset and a can-do attitude to learning, as this will have a positive impact on students’ wellbeing. The second part of the chapter explores the main skills required at university, and it offers ideas for how to develop these to thrive at university. Throughout the chapter, there are activities to support students in understanding the subject and applying it to their own learning journey.
