ABSTRACT

The basic Glasgow material on which the study was based is given in Table 3. This shows the number of multi-storey flats and estates which were in use at various stages of the work. More detailed information of the position at July 1968, when the main 5% sample of this study was drawn, is shown in Table 4. Unless stated otherwise any figures quoted henceforth will refer to this date. By May 1969 an additional 8,300-odd flats in some 73 blocks were occupied, under construction or had been approved. Even should this total of 24,000 homes in high flats not increase much, it can be estimated that roughly 1 in 14 of Glasgow’s 976,000 citizens will shortly be living under multi-storey conditions.
